Upon arriving in Kochi, our first destination was to the land of rivers, forests and the amazing Athirapally water falls, in the district of Thrissur. Known as the Niagara Falls of India, the scenic fall is one of the most popular tourist places in Kerala. In order to get to the waterfall, you will be required to drive through dense forest reserve and then hike a short distance via a paved path through bamboo clusters and trees. I really like that a lot of work has been put into maintaining the waterfalls and forests in the area. There are plenty of “No Smoking” and “No Littering” signs being put up everywhere and there are police officers patrolling the area to… View Post

Krishna Butter Ball – A Rock That Defies All Laws of Physics.

Vaan Irai Kal – Stone of the Sky God, is one of the most intriguing ancient monument I have came across. Known today as Krishna Butter Ball, this enigmatic giant stone is one of the most visited sights in the UNESCO site of Mahabalipuram. Krishna Butter Ball is a rock that defies all laws of physics. The giant self-balancing boulder is resting at a perilous 45 degrees angle on a smooth slant and till date, has been virtually impossible to move this boulder nor roll it down the hill. History has it that in the year 1908, fearing that the boulder may be too dangerous, the then Governor of Madras, Arthur Lawley had ordered the rock to be moved. Even… View Post

Some of them include sites such as the one and only Taj Mahal in Agra, the great wall of India called Kumbhalgarh Fort in the Rajsamand District of Rajasthan, the Harmandir Sahib, or more commonly known as The Golden Temple in Amritsar, and of course, River Ganges. Truly, there are so many India tourist places to visit that you can choose from! However, before embarking on… View Post

The Kerala Backwaters in India – Finding Beauty In Doing Nothing

Some say you can travel without leaving your house. With an adventure on the houseboat, venturing into the Kerala backwaters in India, I’d say you can. The backwaters journey was amazing, and its an adventure of some sort. You cruise through open waters in your Kerala backwaters houseboat, watching the locals in their daily routine, children running by the river banks, fishermen working hard to bring in the dough and wives / mothers washing clothes by the side of the river. Look past the locals and you see carpets after carpets of lush green paddy fields hidden amidst swaying coconut trees. Then there are the water lilies, and water birds. Oh, what a sight they are, almost unreal. You just… View Post
